It supports two 3.5"/2.5" SATA III HDD/SSD bays, offering up to 32TB capacity (2x16TB) with RAID 0, 1, or JBOD. Delivering read/write speeds up to 225 MB/s with port trunking, it supports AES 256-bit encryption with transfer speeds up to 205 MB/s. The Virtualization Station enables running Windows, Linux, UNIX, or Android VMs, while Container Station supports LXC and Docker for lightweight virtualization, ideal for testing and development.
Multimedia and HDMI Connectivity
Equipped with dual 1GbE LAN ports and an HDMI port, the TS-251+ supports link aggregation and delivers Full HD 1080p video playback with 7.1-channel audio pass-through via Kodi or HD Station, controlled by the included remote. It offers real-time and offline transcoding (up to 4K H.264), streaming via DLNA, AirPlay, Chromecast, and Bluetooth. QvPC Technology transforms the NAS into a PC-like device with a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, enabling web browsing, surveillance monitoring, and media playback. Apps like Qfile, Qmusic, and Qvideo enhance mobile access and streaming to devices like Apple TV or Roku.
Intuitive Software and Scalability
Running QTS 4.2 (upgradable to newer versions), the TS-251+ offers an intuitive GUI with apps like Qsirch for real-time file search, Hybrid Backup Sync for cloud and local backups, and Surveillance Station for IP camera monitoring. It supports snapshots (4GB RAM minimum) for data recovery and integrates with myQNAPcloud for remote access. Scalability extends up to 10 drives (96TB) with a QNAP UX-800P enclosure. The App Center provides additional tools for media, backup, and productivity, though some users note limited VPN reliability with OpenVPN.
